Effective Peer Reviews

Peer reviews are group based examinations of documents to find defects. Peer reviews are the one technique clearly proven in the industry to simultaneously improve both product quality and your organization's productivity. They also have the advantage that they can be used by any group regardless of existing practices because they leverage skills that everyone already has.

Doing peer reviews gives you a choice for managing quality over just doing testing, but it's not a Silver Bullet! In this workshop you'll spend two days of intense training on state-of-the-practice review techniques, consisting of:

An Introduction - Covering reasons why peer reviews are an effective strategy for improving quality and productivity. Includes an assessment of your current practices and how they fit into a review program.

An Overview of Methods

A Case Study - a mini-inspection of a real life example from your industry.

Some Homework - studying a document, in preparation for the practice session.

A Practice Session - The class will divide into groups and perform a live inspection, which ideally will review an actual work product from your current project.

A Debriefing - A review of the results of the practice inspection and discussion of how you can apply what you learned to your own work. The group will assess the effectiveness of the various review techniques in the context of your corporate culture and target different kinds of documents for the appropriate technique.
