User Modeling in System Design

Do you really understand the users of your products? Can we ever really know everything about our users' needs? Probably not. Modeling USERS is an effective technique (borrowed from requirements analysis) to discover much about your users, and the assumptions you make about them, without expending the enormous time and effort involved in actually talking to them.

In this two day workshop, you'll learn about soft system approaches using heuristic methods to better understand your users. It includes:

An Introduction - What are users? The scope may be wider than you thought!

An Overview of Methods - heuristic approaches for developing information about your customers and their needs. Participants will get an introduction to the subjects of,

Practical Experience - Participants will develop actual user models in a set of guided sessions, one for each heuristic method. When we're done, we'll have examined and chosen a set of users for a particular product.

A Debriefing - A review of the results of the heuristics, with an assessment of the risk remaining due to uncertainty and ambiguity. A strategy will be developed to make certain that the user information you developed in the workshop will be reflected in your products.

Who should attend?

Those who influence design choices; Developers, Analysts, Quality/Test Engineers, Project Managers, Program Managers, Marketing Specialists, Customer Support Representatives, Documentation Specialists. Ideally, a complete design team.

Two Days - No limit on attendees.
