Objectives of this Checklist

Get approval for the functional product specification and product implementation plans.

Functional Product Specification checklist

• Details prototypes that demonstrate the look and feel of the product.
• Provides further detail on the feature set, user interface, and user access to features (keyboard, mouse, etc.).
• Describes all known boundary and error conditions.
• Lists performance goals.
• Defines the supported operating systems and system configurations.

Implementation Plan checklist

• The Development Plan includes:
  • Schedules and responsibilities for completing the design, design and code reviews, implementation, unit testing, and integration
  • Complete, current architectural and design overview
  • Tools and tool use, including licenses
  • Preliminary schedule and responsibilities for post-Alpha and post-Beta phases
  • Risk analysis
• The Documentation Plan includes:
  • Schedules and responsibilities
  • Outlines for each piece in the documentation set (with page-count estimates), including help, tutorials, demos, sample files, etc.
  • Description of technology issues (new/emerging technologies, media, etc.)
  • Schedule for delivering documentation to International for translation
  • Tools and tool use, including licenses
  • Risk analysis
• The Usability Plan includes:
  • Usability testing strategy
  • Other processes needed to validate the feature and user interface with end users
  • Schedules and responsibilities
  • Risk analysis
• The Quality Plan includes:
  • Testing strategy
  • Test scenarios and test cases
  • Tools and tool use, including licenses
  • The Defect Prediction Model (with examples)
  • Testing Schedule and responsibilities
  • Product metrics (with examples)
  • Alpha entry criteria
  • Beta entry (Alpha exit) criteria
  • Code freeze (Beta exit) criteria
  • Risk analysis
• The Localization Plan includes:
  • Language priorities
  • For third-party localization, a detailed explanation of the process and the needs of that organization
  • Plan for mock translation with defined responsibilities
  • Localization tools, including licenses
  • Localization process for the program and any components, including schedule, projected cost, resource estimates, responsibilities, and localization sites
  • Localization process for the documentation, including schedule, projected cost, resource estimates, and responsibilities
  • Dependencies and subordinate dependencies, including third parties
  • Legal and contractual issues
  • A process for managing post-freeze product modifications
  • A list of areas of concern for International with responses
  • Quality Plan
  • Risk analysis
• The Product Team documents a list of improvements and deviations from the Product Life Cycle.
